One of the best ways to determine problem areas with a sequence is to learn to rely on our intuition. To develop our own understanding of our ability, we need to learn to visualize what we can and can’t do.
The drill:
1. While evaluating a climb, notice areas where you aren’t sure what to do. You can also do this drill after falling at a certain spot.
2. Come up with ideas to solve that section of the climb, as you usually would.
3. Close your eyes, and visualize yourself performing the potential solution.
4. Notice any feelings that the visualization brings up. You may feel hesitant, or confident, based on the result. Repeat #2-4 for each idea.
5. Climb the problem, trying the most successful concept.
Use this drill for several climbs per session, and any time you find yourself uncertain of what to do on a move.
