Trailing Focus

Problem selection:

A variety of problems and angles is best for this drill. Problems with a left-right-left-right cadence are ideal. Huge movements may make the trailing hand less usable; this is still good for practice, but start with reasonable movements until the drill is well understood.

Climbing cadence:

Climb each problem 2-3 times. Rest as much as needed in between reps to climb well.

On each move, focus on pressing into and pulling with the hand you’re moving. This hand is often the lower of the two, thus “trailing.” If you just moved your right hand, you will then focus on pulling/pressing with, releasing, and latching with the left hand.

Try to isolate this hand/arm as much as possible, allowing the hand that remains in contact with the wall to be on autopilot. As you progress repetitions, try to pull as little as possible with the autopilot hand.

Combination:

This is a general session and can be combined with any session. Perform after warming up and before any conditioning.
