Problem selection:
Select a spray wall or board of 20-40 degrees. Start with good hands and feet and progress the difficulty of the holds and distance of the movement as needed. A symmetrical board can be useful.
For this drill, you will start with hands and feet in a roughly square position. Make a movement up to a hold at such a distance that you are extended at the end of the position. Try to remain open to the wall (no drop knee.) Drop off and repeat with the other side.
Focus:
Try to focus on one of these things at a time at first.
- Create tension through the feet and trailing hand throughout the movement
- Latch the target hold precisely
- On contact, immediately feel/create the tension through the primary foot (usually same foot as reaching hand)
- After tensing through the foot, adjust the hold if needed
Combination:
Perform at the beginning of your session, after warming up fully and after any finger strength work.
