Momentum Practice

Problem selection:

Select problems on a variety of angles and styles, or otherwise suggested by your plan.

Climbing:

You will repeat each climb three times.

First, try to use as little momentum as possible. Second, try to use some momentum or swing on every move. Review which moves felt natural or good with momentum, and any areas where you were imprecise.

Make a plan to use a combination of static and dynamic movements. Run through the plan in your head, or out loud. (“I should move more statically through this technical section, but on the upper moves where the holds are better, I need to climb with a bit more pop.”)  On the third rep, execute this plan.

You may want to further refine your combination and climb a fourth or fifth rep.

Focus:

Focus on your center of gravity, the precision that you take the holds/footholds with, and what part of your body the momentum comes from.

Combination:

Perform after warming up and before any conditioning.
