Hip Twists

Problem selection:

Select a spray wall or a wall with lots of hands and feet. Start with good hands and feet and focus on learning to engage your hips. Don’t limit the footholds.

As you progress this drill, you can climb problems or routes in the gym. Continue adding footholds from other problems as needed to make the twist natural.

Focus:

On each move, focus on the hip on the same side as the moving hand. Twist that hip into the wall, turning your torso to the side. This will extend your reach with the moving hand.

Your other arm should remain as relaxed as possible. Try to get as much of the movement out of your hip as possible.

Combination:

This is a general session and can be combined with any session. Perform after warming up and before any conditioning.
