Pace Invert

In this sport climbing session, the goal is to climb more aggressively in the top half of the route. This can be done on onsights, redpoints or with easier terrain as practice. The plan will specify the number of routes and intensity.

Often with routes, as we become tired we rest more. And sometimes, a moderate level of climbing can be sustainable like this. But often with harder sport climbs, we need to be able to manage a certain pace for a certain section of climbing regardless of how we feel. The idea of this session is to pick a spot on the route where you’ll increase the pace. Often this will come at or just above a rest point.

Leaving the rest point, movement should be more aggressive, only taking shakes and not fully stopping unless there’s a significant rest.  This doesn’t mean technique should get sloppy; just try to climb a few percent faster, not so fast that you fall apart. Ideally you will carry the higher pace through to the top of the route or until you fall.
